Last year, around this time, I took on the leadership of the Uganda Blogging Community. I must say, it was a rather scary role, seeing that I loved the background volunteering under the great inspiration of Roland. But yeah, I took it on like a winner, held my head high and it has been a long and fulfilling experience. It has had its highs and lows as well but my and others’ (volunteers) contribution to the community has uplifted my spirit and enriched me as a person. Since I took it on;
We have had several successful Uganda Blogging Happy Hours (meetups), online blogging challenges, and a very successful Online Workshop – “Introduction to Blogging” taught by topnotch Ugandan bloggers and Influencers. Yey, bragging rights. Many trainees in this workshop joined the community some of whom now thriving bloggers. We also took part in a corporate Sports Tournament and our team came out with a Certificate.
As Shakespeare’s says, “All the World’s a Stage, and all the men and women are merely players… with exits and entrances… ’, my time has come to exit the stage for the next able leader. Yes, quite a lot has been done, but I feel I am not leading the community ably enough to the progress and future it deserves due to my many commitments. My greatest dream was to one day organise a successful Uganda Bloggers Festival, with awards, challenges and a platform to engage more the corporate world and be visible as a force to reckon with in the Arts and Media, it is still my hope that this will be attainable. For now, we need a unified blogging community run by an invested and dedicated leadership team and we can’t settle for the bare minimums. I believe in the Uganda Blogging Community, it is a group of warm and creative minds and I believe it has great potential with the new breed of passionate bloggers on the scene to guide us into progress and into its bright future, leaders who will breathe fresh ideas into the community.
